Texas Heartaches History

Janet David & the Texas Heartaches was created in 1989. The original band members were Janet David - vocals, Donnie David - sound engineer, Jim Fannin - bass guitar & vocals, Dusty Hoffpauir - lead guitar & vocals, Kenny Drake - drums & vocals, and Don Eggars - pedal steel guitar. Susan Alcorn and Al Burke played steel for us when we were getting started, but they both had other commitments.

After Don was injured in a motorcycle accident, we were fortunate to meet Deacon Anderson. Deacon was the master of the lap steel guitar. He was our friend and mentor. Deacon introduced us to a lot of wonderful people. We were lucky enough to play with several of them. We did a TV show "The Nashville Knights in Texas" with Cliff Bruner. It was broadcast in Europe. There were guests from all over the US and some from Europe. It was an interesting time. Deacon was our steel player until his death in 2011. It is impossible to replace him. That is why we no longer use a steel guitar in the band.
